In HEAD Padel they love to celebrate their history and legacy, which is why from the brand again surprise with a shovel of the most special. On this occasion, the design of it brings us closer to the beginnings of padel in Spain, and its precursor Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe, with a clear nod to the country of origin: Mexico. A most magical mix.
What was the relationship between Hohenlohe and Corcuera? Prince Alfonso of Hohenlohe was a close friend of Enrique Corcuera, the famous Mexican who invented padel by chance, and often visited him at his home. On one occasion, he tried the new padel court for the first time and was immediately fascinated.
In 1974, Alfonso brought the game to Spain. He built the first two courts in the country at his Marbella Club hotel, an establishment frequented by kings and celebrities. At that time, movie stars such as Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, Kim Novak, James Stewart and Sean Connery stayed there, as well as members of the European aristocracy: Juan Carlos I, Grace Kelly and the kings of Sweden.
Like the Corcuera court, those courts were made “by eye”, taking advantage of the land that was left. In its first year, padel took off like wildfire in Marbella. Some residents of the area and regular tourists became regulars at the Marbella Club to practice this sport invented for the jet set.
Now, to commemorate Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe, known as the “grandfather of padel”, HEAD PADEL has created a limited edition racket inspired by a cactus, a plant native to the Americas and very common in Mexican deserts. The grainy textures and retro styling convey a rich sense of antiquity, heritage and meaning, all vital elements in a collector's item such as this.
In addition, HEAD Sportswear has also created a textile capsule collection, matching the racket, which includes a polo shirt and shorts for men and a tank top, shorts and dress for women.
