Thirty million players worldwide, 600,000 registered with national federations, and 71 national associations affiliated with the International Padel Federation (FIP). These three figures demonstrate the strength of a sport whose major challenge on the horizon is to become part of the official program of the Olympic Games. This topic will be one of the main issues addressed at the Padel Global Conference, the congress of the Padel World Summit (PWS), which will take place from May 27 to 29 at the Gran Via venue of Fira de Barcelona.
Organised by the International Padel Cluster (CIP) and Fira de Barcelona, the PWS is the leading trade event aimed at boosting and strengthening the business opportunities offered by this sport, one of the fastest-growing worldwide in recent years. It will feature an exhibition area with more than 150 companies, an investor forum, a networking space, eight padel courts for exhibition matches, and the international congress Padel Global Conference.The Padel World Summit, which will be held in Hall 6 of the Gran Via venue, expects to receive more than 6,000 professional visitors from around the world, thus making Barcelona the global capital of the sport.
The Padel Global Conference will feature more than one hundred speakers and international experts who will address the main future challenges for professionals in this sport. Among the conferences, one of the highlights will focus on the potential inclusion of padel in the Olympic Games program in Brisbane 2032, with Eric Babolat, CEO of Babolat, one of the world’s most prestigious companies specialising in the manufacture of padel and tennis rackets.
Clubs and professionalisation
The creation of a strong critical mass of players through the foundation of clubs will be the subject addressed by Sebastian Gordon, co-founder of Rocket Padel, a company that has launched several padel clubs in the United Kingdom, such as the one in Bristol, the largest in the country. Meanwhile, Gabriel Pérez Krieb, president of Taktika Equity, the largest padel investment fund in the United States, will explain the keys to the sport’s growth and professionalisation. Ana Gómez, marketing director at AFP Group, the adidas licensee for padel, will present the brand’s strategy for global expansion in this field.
