Coinciding with the celebration of the BNL Italy Major Premier Padel at the iconic Foro Italico in Rome, the Research and Data Analysis Department of the International Padel Federation (FIP) has confirmed that Italy has officially surpassed 10,000 courts nationwide.
With 10,017 courts, Italy consolidates itself as the second country in the world in terms of the number of courts, only behind Spain (17,000 courts), and ahead of historic powers such as Argentina. This growth reflects not only the sector’s dynamism but also a genuine national passion for padel, which has surged especially since 2022, when the first edition of the Italy Major was held. Since then, the number of courts has increased by 29%.
Leading regions: Lazio, Lombardy, and Sicily
The region with the most courts is Lazio, with 2,014 courts (20.1% of the national total), which has seen a 30% increase compared to 2022, when it had 1,550 courts. It is followed by Lombardy, with 1,409 courts, and then Sicily, with 822 courts.
Within Lazio, padel is present in 129 municipalities: 55 in the metropolitan area of Rome, 24 in Frosinone, 20 in Viterbo, 18 in Latina, and 12 in Rieti. Additionally, this region boasts one of the lowest ratios in the world: one court for every 2,835 inhabitants.
Rome, the epicenter of Italian padel
Rome stands as the Italian city with the highest number of courts and as the third worldwide, only behind Madrid and Barcelona. The Italian capital has 1,563 courts, representing an increase of 28% compared to the 1,220 it had in 2022.
Moreover, it is estimated that there are nearly 250,000 players in the Italian capital, including both amateurs and federated players, which accounts for approximately one in six padel practitioners in Italy, where the total number of players reaches 1.5 million.
