The UK continues to strengthen its position as one of Europe's fastest-growing padel markets. Although it still remains well behind countries such as Spain and Italy in terms of size, the United Kingdom has now surpassed one million players and more than 1,800 courts, driven by growing demand, institutional support and increasing interest from investors and financial institutions.
According to the latest figures published by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the country reached one million players and 1,825 courts across 551 venues in May 2026, compared with 1,553 courts at the end of 2025. The pace of growth is particularly remarkable considering that, in 2019, the UK had fewer than 70 courts and around 15,000 players.
Investment continues to drive market expansion
The rapid development of padel in the UK is being supported by significant investment. The LTA and its foundation have invested more than £7.5 million in court construction, leveraging an additional £10.5 million in funding and bringing the total investment to more than £18 million for the development of 112 courts across 57 venues.
In addition, the UK Government has committed at least £2.5 million during the 2026–2027 period to support the construction of new indoor padel and tennis facilities.
Private financing gains momentum
Private capital is also playing an increasingly important role in the sector's expansion. Several recent announcements highlight the growing confidence of financial institutions and investors in the UK's padel industry.
Among them, NatWest has supported the opening of a new indoor club in Wales through the redevelopment of an industrial building, while Pure Padel has opened a new venue in Solihull as part of its expansion strategy across the West Midlands.
Meanwhile, Smash Padel continues to execute its growth plan after securing £1.25 million in private investment, with the ambition of expanding from five to twenty clubs.
Established operators such as Game4Padel, The Padel Club, Rocket Padel and David Lloyd Clubs also continue to expand nationwide, while Slazenger Padel Clubs, backed by Frasers Group, has announced the opening of new clubs throughout 2026 as part of its national growth strategy.
A more structured ecosystem
The rapid expansion of padel is also fostering the development of dedicated industry platforms. The Padel Directory has established itself as a key resource for players, clubs and businesses, listing more than 1,500 courts across the country and attracting over 400,000 users during 2025.
In parallel, events such as the UK Padel Convention continue to strengthen the industry's professional ecosystem by bringing together operators, manufacturers, court builders, coaches and service providers.
A benchmark for emerging markets
The UK's development illustrates how quickly padel can evolve when strong consumer demand is combined with public investment, private financing and an increasingly professional business ecosystem. While the market remains smaller than Europe's leading padel nations, the United Kingdom has become one of the industry's most significant international growth stories and an important benchmark for emerging padel markets worldwide.
